Amy Gamby and Matt Smith, members of Shadow Hills Country Club, got married on July 9 in a ceremony filled with lights and love. Event though the weather forced them to move the reception inside, they still were able to have the look they had been planning. Congratulations Amy and Matt, we wish you and your family all the best!
Melinda, the former Catering Sales Manager, and Travis, the Assistant Mechanic, got married at Shadow Hills on July 2 in a ceremony performed by the GM Dave Shelton. The theme was romantic garden wedding, a perfect fit for Shadow Hills. The ceremony featured a butterfly release and a unity cocktail with a toast by all the guests. Guests raved about the food and the mimosa bar was quite a hit.
Choosing the right menu for a special event can be just as important as choosing a location. Food can communicate a theme, convey a feeling or set the mood of an entire night. Taking great care in planning a menu shows your guests how much you appreciate them, and a great meal can help make a special day even more memorable.
Here are some things to consider:
Choose the style of service to match the style of the event. A plated meal conveys a more formal feel while a buffet can help get the guests mingling.
Have you menu match your theme. Having a luau theme, choose Hawaiian food. For an outdoor lunch, you can’t go wrong with a barbeque buffet.
Ask what is in season so you can give your guests the freshest farm to table selections.
Think about the weather. In the heat of the summer you might want a lighter entrée while in the winter comfort foods will warm your guests up.
Know if anyone has a allergy or dietary restriction so you can have a special meal ready for them.

2. Use an inclusive venue (like Shadow Hills) that does much of the work for you.
A venue that provides catering, tables, chairs, linens, place settings, etc., will save you time (and money). Inclusive venues keep your planning simple by eliminating multiple vendors.
3. Start planning early and reserve your date as soon as possible.
The best venues and vendors are going to be the most popular and will book up quickly. Reserve your date right away so you don’t have to settle for your second choice.
4. Have guests RSVP.
And plan to call or email many of them. Guests are notoriously bad about RSVPing. Build in a buffer between your RSVP date and your event.
5. Create a checklist so you don’t forget anything.
Checklists will help you stay on track and keep you from having to run around town on the day of the event.
